Mole Gr
Type Locality and Naming
The named section is located in Datong River Basin, Qinghai Province. A Comparative Study of Multiple Stratigraphic Division in Qinghai Province in 1994 divided the Mole Group into a lower Atasi Fm and an upper Galedesi Fm. This Lexicon follows it.
Synonym: In 1975, the 105 Group of Qinghai Coalfield was named Moeller Group in Datong River Basin. In 1976, the Upper Triassic strata with marine facies or doubtful marine interlayer in the central and southern Qilian Mountains were named as the Moler Group in the "Northwest Division Stratigraphic Conference". In 1983, Yang Zunyi and others established the Ata Temple Group in Ata Si Gou, Yike Wulan Township, Gangchah County, and the Gaede Temple Group in Gaede Temple, Mole Township, Qilian County.
Lithology and Thickness
The lower and upper members of the Atasi Fm (lower formation of the Mole Gr) are composed of gray-white, gray-green, dark purple sandstone, pebbled sandstone and occasionally gray-green or purplish pink siltstone. The upper part consists of grey and dark grey siltstones, silty shale interbedded with carbonaceous shale and sandstone.
Galedesi Fm (upper formation of the Mole Gr) is a rhythmic bed composed of gray, dark gray siltstone, silty shale and gray-light gray sandstone, with carbonaceous shale, coal seam or black shale in some parts. It was a pseudo-conformable contact with the underlying Chelmagou Fm or Junzihe Fm, 1454.31 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It has a pseudo-conformable contact with the underlying Chelmagou Fm or Junzihe Fm.
Upper contact
Next younger unit is indicated on schematic strat column as the lower Jurassic Daxigou Gr (Daxigou Fm?); but this TJ20 column has the Xiaomeigou Fm of lower Jurassic as the overlying unit.
Regional extent
The Galedesi Fm is mainly distributed in the western section of the central and southern Qilian Mountains. The lithology is relatively stable in the region and has been damaged by the structure.
GeoJSON
Fossils
Calamites sp., Paracalamites sp., Danaeopsis fecunda, Taeniocladopsis rhizomoides, Glossophyllum? And the bivalve fossils Unio, Utschamiella longa, etc.
Age
Depositional setting
The Atasi Formation is marine-continental sedimentary facies. The overlying Galedesi Formation is a marshy - lacustrine deposit.
